The accessibility pass at the end of a project is how you end up rebuilding the thing you just built.
When accessibility arrives as a checklist in the final sprint, the findings are almost always structural: the modal that traps nothing, the custom select with no keyboard model, the color system with no contrast headroom left to spend.
Design decisions with an audit attached
We set contrast floors in the token layer, so an inaccessible pairing is not available to pick. Focus states are drawn in the same file as hover states, at the same time, by the same person.
On Kindred Market, four of twelve usability sessions ran with assistive-technology users from the first round. Two of the biggest design changes came out of those four sessions.
It is the same work
A checkout that a screen-reader user can complete is a checkout with a clear structure, honest labels, and a predictable order. That is not a compliance artifact. That is just a well-designed checkout.
